THE LOCAL SKATING RINK was a popular hangout. Harvey and I went a few times and had so much fun. You would think memories of that would keep him from bringing her, but it didn’t. Nope, he went straight to her house, picked her up, and drove her to a place where we spent time as a couple.

I watched through the window as the two of them fumbled around on the rink. He held her hand. She kissed his cheek. They laughed like they were still in high school. It made me hate her even more. I was in his head though. Every few minutes he would look around. I knew he was looking for me. Even though he was with her, he still wondered about me. That showed it was true love. He just needed reminders. Lots of them.

Leaning down next to the Mustang, I used the keys for the rental car to leave him a note. I wasn’t a stalker. He only said that to make her happy. I was his true love. He needed to know I was his, always. That’s the note I left him. It would be scratched into his car for everyone to see. One simple word. Always.

The Getaway

I went camping a lot as a kid. Dad wanted me to know how to survive on my own. I didn’t really see the point of it though. He always told me his little princess would find a prince and live a happy life. Mrs. Lee blamed him for my obsession with love. She said he put fairytales in my head, and I believed that. That wasn’t true though. It wasn’t a fairytale. Daddy just told me what I deserved. He made me realize I couldn’t settle for less. That wasn’t a bad thing. No matter what my shrink said.

I pitched my tent out in the woods. I couldn’t use the normal camping site. Nope, that wouldn’t work. They would be there. I couldn’t get my happily ever after like that, and I was tired of waiting. Harvey would be mine again, or he wouldn’t be anyone’s. That’s just how it had to be.

I pulled out my camera, so I could watch them through the lens. The more I saw them holding hands and kissing, the angrier I got. It wasn’t fair. There was nothing about Marissa that made her more deserving of him than me. Nothing. Maybe Harvey really wasn’t the right one for me.

Over the past few weeks of watching them get closer, I realized I would have to move on. This time though, I wasn’t going to let the ones that hurt me off so easily. It wasn’t fair. I knew the right one was out there, I just had to find him. Once I put an end to the pain Harvey and Marissa caused.

Match Makers would be the perfect place for me to start again. It was advertised as a way to find love. That’s what I wanted. Love. Pure and simple. I sent in my application a few days ago.
